The father of a Thai teen gunman who shot his grandparents dead before going on a killing spree at his school on Friday (August 7) has apologised for his son's actions.

Thai police called the shooter's parents in for questioning on Saturday (August 8). Thai media reported that both parents appeared extremely stressed and were not ready to speak to the media.

However, the father told police during his interview session that he apologised to society for what his son had done, Thai media reported, adding the man saw his son's body only when preparing for the funeral later on Saturday.

Friday's shooting took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, on the capital Bangkok's north-western outskirts. Seven were killed and 23 wounded before the gunman shot himself in Thailand's worst mass shooting since 2022.
